What to Include in Your 21-Day Brain Detox Challenge?

You have probably heard of the 21-day brain detox program. Does it work? Is that challenge practical? In this blog, I’ll suggest my own list of activities you should try in the next 3 weeks to detox your brain.

These activities should turn into a small group of habits after the mentioned period of time. The main thing here? Consistency and discipline. Because 3 weeks can change your life.

Is It True That 21 Days Make a Habit?

It actually depends on how long you have been doing something. It may not be enough to break or create habits of something you have or have not done in years. But 21 days is a minimum requirement, as has been suggested by a surgeon named Maxwell Maltz in the 1950s. He has been the first person to suggest the 21-day habit formation.

Although it does not work for everyone the same way, it is still widely believed and followed worldwide. So it is worth trying and testing; while it can be 21 days for others, it may take 4-5 weeks for you.

How Do You Detox Your Brain?

To start off, your brain needs enough sleep in the first place. Before I go on with the other habits and activities, you need to sleep well and on time. Because once your sleep schedule is damaged, you will not be able to detox your brain. You can not detox something that is not functioning well in the first place. So, your 21-day brain detox should start from your sleep schedule.

The other most crucial activity you should be involved in is working out. Your 21-day brain detox challenge will be incomplete without daily physical activities because a healthy body is a healthy mind. Once you get workouts done, you will be willing to complete the other activities too.

Work out equipments

Your eating habits should be the third most important thing about your 21-day brain detox challenge. If you consume only junk food and do not watch out for the sugar, carbs, proteins, and vitamins in your diet, you will not be able to sort out the other habits properly. You should also stay hydrated, as it is one of the most crucial factors for your brain detox & mental health.

To achieve a brilliant mindset, you should be able to put these 3 things in order in the next 21 days:

  • Sleep schedule
  • Physical activities
  • Diet

What to Do in the 21-day Brain Detox Challenge?

Here are some of my top suggestions you should try in your 21-day brain detox challenge, which I have tested, and they contribute a lot to my everyday life.

1. Meditate daily

You should put meditation on the top of your to-do list in the 21-day brain detox challenge. Meditation has endless benefits for your body and mental health, including:

  • Reduced stress levels and anxiety
  • Better stress and anger management
  • Increased creativity
  • Better tolerance and patience
  • New perspectives on stressful life situations

Meditation is a single way of detoxing your brain every day that will help you let go of the past, drop your expectations from the future, and make you a calmer person. If you are a very stressed person, after 2-3 weeks of constant meditating, you will feel like your brain unloads a lot of unnecessary worries from itself.

So my first 21-day brain detox suggestion for you: meditate daily.

Meditating

2. Write Down Your Worries and Goals

What is the most frightening thing for you at the moment? What makes your brain feel like it will explode at any moment?

There are a lot of benefits to writing things down, regardless if they are positive or negative. If you write your worries or struggles down, you will see:

  • They are not as scary as they seem
  • Each one from that list can be put away
  • You might have been acting dramatically about them
  • Your stress levels are going down as you cross them out from the list

If some of these struggles, toxic thoughts, or worries are not going to go out quickly, you can also write down your plans to eliminate them. If you write your goals and plans, you will see:

  • They are on the paper, not in the back of your mind
  • You can immediately take action against them
  • All of them are achievable if you put work into it
  • You have a more organized list of worries instead of a mess

Writing things down is my second piece of advice that helps you a lot in detoxing your brain. Writing gets you more organized. You see things more clearly.

3. Keep Your Room Clean

Only a few phenomenal brains and outliers can function 100% in a messy environment. The rest of us? We need a clean environment to have a clear mind to do things. There is immense importance in completing small tasks daily, and keeping your room tidy should be your first priority.

The mental health benefits of making your bed are a hot topic discussed worldwide, but it does not end there. Your work or study desk should be clean and organized too. Throw away unnecessary items and clothes, or donate them. This way, you will keep the number of things in your room at an absolute minimum. You will be surprised how much difference they make to your brain.

So my third habit for you to detox your brain in the next 21 days: keep your room tidy & clean.

4. Stay Away from Social Media for a While

I’ve mentioned the importance of control over social media usage in another blog about the habits of successful manifestors. And it is equally crucial for your 21-day brain detox challenge. No matter what, you follow some toxic people and see toxic content daily that harms your brain, reduces your attention span, and makes you nervous.

Take a break from social media for a while. Stay clear of constant posting, comparing, and fake relationships. Most of your social media friends do not care about you anyway. You will not lose anything for staying away for some time; when you return, you will see that nothing’s changed.

5. Reduce Electronic Device Usage Before Sleep

Another thing you should try in your 21-day brain detox challenge is keeping electronic devices away for 3-040 minutes prior to your sleep. Ditching your phone before bed will increase your sleep quality, and you won’t have massive headaches when you wake up.

You can meditate or read for half an hour before sleep. That will make a huge difference. In the mornings, you can start your new day more energized with less concerned, more focused mindset.

21-Day Brain Detox Challenge: Final List

To sum it up, you should include these habits in your 21-day brain detox challenge:

  • Sleep well
  • Eat healthy food
  • Stay hydrated
  • Work out constantly
  • Meditate
  • Write things down
  • Be aware
  • Keep your room clean
  • Stay away from social media
  • Stop using electronic devices before sleep
